The opening act was Cheap Dinosaur, who is still out there rocking and it blew me away when I connected the dots at the first 8static I went to and saw him play again(8static is a Philadelphia chiptune collective, they host monthly shows and open mics, really cool stuff). I honestly can’t remember who came on first, Pete or The Depreciation Guild. The Depreciation Guild were fantastic and continued to be so, it’s a damn shame they don’t have more music because they’re really really good lo-fi/shoegaze. I have a pin from them on my bedside table, still.
Before Pete went on I gave him the cookies and he thanked me by giving me a copy of the EP. I was ecstatic. Pete played with a macbook and was awesome and has been at every show I’ve seen him play.
I would see Pete 3 or 4 more times over the next years… I saw him play at Sprinkle Kingdom, which was one of the best house shows I’ve ever seen. At The Ox (an abandoned warehouse that was used as a venue for a brief period of time), where my old roommate kicked me in the face and broke my glasses when I was lifting him to crowd surf. At North Star, last night. Each time I talked to him and reintroduced myself and he always immediately knew who I was when I mentioned the cookies. Last night he recalled my name and we hugged it out and it was rad.
Also talking with Pete about how far back we go in front of a bunch of 16 year olds was pretty satisfying.
